The Philippines sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, so lindol is a fact of life — from small tremors to the major quake experts call "The Big One." You cannot predict when one will strike, but you can decide right now how you and your family will respond. This guide covers the three things that save lives: a ready home, the Duck, Cover, and Hold response, and knowing what to do once the shaking stops.
Anchor heavy furniture, cabinets, and appliances to the wall so they can't topple.
Know your safe spots in every room: under a sturdy table, away from windows and glass.
Identify your exits and a family meeting point outside the building.
Pack a go-bag (emergency kit)
Keep one ready bag per household, near your exit:
Water — about 1 gallon per person per day, for 3 days
Non-perishable food (canned goods, biscuits) + can opener
Flashlight + extra batteries, and a power bank
First-aid kit + maintenance medicines
Whistle (to signal if trapped)
Cash in small bills and coins
Copies of IDs and important documents in a waterproof bag
Agree on an out-of-town contact everyone can text if local lines are busy, and teach kids how to reach them.
2. Habang lumilindol — Duck, Cover, and Hold
3. Pagkatapos lumindol — stay safe after

The Big One: maghanda nang maaga
The West Valley Fault runs through Metro Manila and nearby provinces, and PHIVOLCS warns it could produce a major earthquake — "The Big One." No one can say when. What you can do today is prepare: secure your home, pack a go-bag, and agree on a family plan. Preparation, hindi takot, ang sagot.
