Sa Pilipinas, hindi lang basta init ang dapat alalahanin — heat index ang totoong panukat: kung paano nararamdaman ng katawan ang init dahil sa kombinasyon ng temperatura at humidity. Sa mga panahon ng El Niño at tag-init, ang heat index ay regular na umaabot ng 45–50°C+ — sapat na para magdulot ng heat stroke, lalo na sa matatanda, bata, at outdoor workers.

Mga sintomas ng heat stroke ⚠️ (medical emergency)

Tumawag agad sa 911 kung may:

Habang naghihintay: dalhin sa malilim na lugar, alisin ang dagdag na damit, palamigin ang katawan ng basa-basang tela (lalo na sa leeg, kilikili, singit), at painumin ng tubig kung may malay.

Paano maiwasan

UMINOM NG TUBIG nang madalas, kahit hindi nauuhaw. Iwasan ang sugary drinks, alak, at sobrang kape.

IWASAN ANG 10 AM – 4 PM sa labas. Maglakad o magtrabaho sa labas tuwing umaga o late hapon.

MAGSUOT NG MAGAAN at maluwag na damit, kulay puti o light. Wear a hat or use an umbrella.

PALAMIGIN ANG BAHAY — isara ang kurtina sa peak na oras, gumamit ng electric fan, maligo nang malamig.

Sino ang pinaka-bulnerable?

Bantayan sila nang husto. Tumawag agad ng tulong kung may sintomas ng heat stroke.

El Niño at tagtuyot

Sa ilalim ng El Niño, mas matagal at mas malala ang init. Iwasan ang mahabang exposure sa labas. Mag-ipon ng tubig para sa pag-inom at pananaliwa, at bantayan ang LGU advisories tungkol sa class suspensions at work-from-home orders.
